The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland received a fake letter made to look like it had come from Ukraine. The letter requires information about all Ukrainian men under the age of 60 who are in Poland. The Center for Countering Disinformation, overseen by Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, first reported the fake.
The letter claimed the information would somehow help the Armed Forces of Ukraine mobilize men to participate in the war against Russia. This is not the only effort to collect information from or about soldiers of recruitment age. This may be for targeting should these people come under occupation
According to the GPA, this disinformation appeared on February 3, 2022, on the Russian website "Red spring", and on June 17, the same fake was repeated by the Telegram channel "Joker of the DPR". According to GPA experts, Russians are trying to obtain the personal data of Ukrainians for further information and psychological operations.
Pro-Kremlin actors also spread a fake letter from the Ministry of Education instructing heads of educational institutions to draw up lists of graduates of “military-patriotic age” and "with the characteristics of assessing military-patriotic education."
