About Hoaxlines
Although falsehoods have always existed, today, bad actors have powerful tools and tactics that give them unprecedented impact. We strive to alert in real-time, translate our findings into concrete policy recommendations, and create resources that help the public face information disorder.
Our work has been cited by national media, journalists, international fact-checking websites, advocacy groups, and expert resources. We accept no funding, have no grants, make no profit, and are exclusively volunteer-operated.
Projects
Kindly note that highlighted projects are undergoing maintenance. Past projects have included a COVID-19 information dashboard, a COVID disinformation database, and vaccine disinformation tracking.
- Disinformation database—An information hub for all things media manipulation and malign influence, updated daily.
- Pro-regime information ecosystem classification—Analyzing, discussing, and considering websites requires developing a classification system. Clear definitions improve consistency and, thus, the quality of observations. Transparency about observations and rationale also provides websites with an understanding of what actions or behavior may have unintended effects.
- Ukraine information dashboard—A board with information on Ukraine, including real-time incident reporting and a sanctions tracker.
- Putin’s approval and aggression abroad—The data show that aggression toward neighboring countries generally favors Russian President Vladimir Putin at home.
