Individual comments under the publication cannot represent the opinion of all German citizens. A survey conducted in April 2022 showed that 89% of Germans fully support or are inclined to support Ukraine, and about 82% of Germans fully support or are inclined to believe that the Russian authorities are to blame for what is happening. Also, there is no question of any ultimatum from Zelensky or, moreover, threats, as propagandists say.
The propaganda agency RIA Novosti published an article about the non-existent "support" of the Germans of the Russian Federation under the title "We choose Russia." The Germans responded harshly to Zelensky's ultimatum". The purpose of this publication is to develop a narrative about the alleged mass support by citizens of Western countries for Russia's actions both in relation to Ukraine and in the international arena. The text of the article itself is a collage of pro-Russian comments published under the material of the German public television [ZDF] on Twitter.
German Public Television ZDF tweeted an excerpt from an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which he says that Ukraine needs confidence that the German government, in particular Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, supports Ukraine.
"He and his government should determine for themselves, not to balance between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, to determine for themselves who is in priority. I feel that the people of Germany have done it, and the leadership is always difficult because there are so many challenges. I understand. Nevertheless, I am counting on it very much," Vladimir Zelensky said.
Russian media portrays Zelenskyy as having given an "ultimatum" to Olaf Scholz. This is a lie, as evidenced by this passage, no ultimatum or threats from Zelensky are out of the question.
Previously StopFake detailed how bad actors create the illusion of "public opinion" − when the statements of individuals are presented as the position of the majority. Indeed, in the comments to the publication ZDF you can also find pro-Russian comments quoted by the Kremlin media, however, they cannot represent the opinion of all German citizens. Moreover, under the same publication, you can find comments with the support of Ukraine and Zelenskyy's statements − however, the propagandists decided to keep silent about them.
"Apparently, many here do not understand the difference between a warning and a threat. Furthermore, the P-UA says what it needs - not required. Tens of thousands have already died in the UA - Scholz has to make a decision - the warning is advice. This country fights for Europe," said a user called Patrick J
“Still striving for a solution through negotiations with Putin, trying to negotiate agreements that he has violated for 20 years is pointless. Clearly, now we need to support Ukraine massively in order to defeat Putin in Ukraine on the battlefield, then he will also fall in Russia," the user writes “Janosch f.”
A survey conducted in April 2022 among Europeans showed that the majority of EU residents support Ukraine and advocate the need to provide her with various types of assistance. According to the data, 54% of Germans fully support Ukrainians and 35% are inclined to support them. At the same time, 58% of Germans are completely sure that the Russian authorities are to blame for what is happening, and 24% are more likely to think so.
